The High Court has ordered the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal to complete the trial over the rape of a child at the Magura home of her sister within 180 days.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury issued the ruling on Sunday.

The court also directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, or BTRC, to remove all pictures of the child from newspapers, online portals and all social media within 24 hours.

In addition, the bench ordered the appointment of a social worker to take care of the child who was raped and to ensure her security.

Lawyer Syed Mahsib Hossain represented the petition in court, accompanied by Hamidul Misbah and Mithun Roy Chowdhury. Deputy Attorney General Tanim Khan represented the state.

Mahsib told bdnews24.com that he brought a newspaper report about the incident to the court's attention. Later, on the court's orders, Hamidul Misbah and he filed a petition on the matter.

An 8-year-old girl was allegedly raped when she went to visit her sister’s house in Nijnanduali village in the Magura suburbs on Thursday afternoon.

The victim's family said that she was initially taken to Magura Sadar Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. On Friday morning, she was moved to Dhaka for advanced treatment. She has since been transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to the Combined Military Hospital.

The child’s mother started the case at Magura Sadar Police Station on Saturday, accusing the suspects of rape and attempted murder, according to the district's Additional Superintendent of Police Mirajul Islam.

The accused include the child's brother-in-law Sojib Hossain, 18, his father Hitu Mia, 42, Sojib's brother Ratul Sheikh, 17, and their mother Jabeda Begum, 40. All four have been arrested, said Mirajul.

According to the case dossier, the child was raped by her sister’s father-in-law with help from her sister’s husband. It claims her sister’s mother-in-law and brother-in-law also knew of the incident. They attempted to kill the child in an effort to cover up the incident.
