Although the government has announced that it will accept the three-point demands of Jagannath University (JnU) students, a section of the protesters has refused to suspend their movement.
They allege that even after three consecutive days of protest, the authorities have not provided a clear roadmap for fulfilling their demands.
As a result, some students continue their sit-in at the Kakrail Mosque intersection, according to local media.
At 8:30 PM on Friday (May 16), Professor Rais Uddin, General Secretary of the JnU Teachers' Association, announced the suspension of the protest from the demonstration site.
Earlier, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor S.M.A. Faiz stated, “We always prioritize students’ interests. The government has accepted the demands of Jagannath University students.”
After Professor Rais Uddin announced the suspension of the protest at 8:30 PM, many students reacted angrily. At around 9 PM, rain dispersed some of the protesters, but several students remained at the Kakrail intersection chanting slogans, including the mocking chant “mula mula” (carrot, carrot), implying they were being misled with hollow promises.
The demonstrators said they would not end the protest until the government announces a concrete plan for implementing their demands.
