The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) aims to assist candidates or applicants from other countries in obtaining Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate, or PhD degrees in their preferred study fields. This initiative fosters international education exchanges and cultivates mutual friendship between nations.

The benefits of the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) in 2024 include providing international students with opportunities to pursue academic degrees at higher educational institutions in Korea. This program aims to promote international education exchange and strengthen the bonds of friendship between Korea and participating countries.

Established in 2010, the Korean Government Scholarship Program has been rebranded and integrated as the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), reflecting its mission and commitment to fostering global education opportunities.

The following are the benefits for Successful Applicants Which will be automatically applied to the Gas scholarship 2024: 

  • Coverage of airfare, including travel expenses.
  • Full tuition fee waiver.
  • Resettlement allowance for applicants.
  • Living expenses in South Korea amount to up to 900,000 KRW.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance coverage.
  • Funding was provided for research support during graduate and postgraduate studies.
  • Printing costs for dissertations are included.
  • A one-time degree completion grant.

GKS Scholarship Grants 2024

This scholarship is supported by two grants provided to applicants while studying in their chosen fields. Below are the distinctions between these grants:

  1. Korean Proficiency Grants: Scholars enrolled in the degree program with a certified TOPIK level 5 or 6 during the period of examination validity will be considered for this grant, amounting to 100,000 KRW per month.
  2. Degree Completion Grants: This one-time grant of 100,000 KRW is offered exclusively to international students or beneficiaries of the GKS Scholarship who return to their home countries. Those who remain in Korea, including Korean scholarship beneficiaries, are not eligible for this grant.

Eligibility Criteria: 

The following must be considered when Applying for GKS Scholarship 2024 undergraduate, Graduate, and postgraduate degree programs: 

  • The applicant and their parents must hold citizenship of their country of origin.
  • Applicants should not possess Korean citizenship or citizenship of the sponsoring country.
  • Sound physical and mental health are prerequisites for studying in South Korea under the GKS Scholarship.
  • Completion of high school courses is mandatory before applying for this scholarship.
  • Age restrictions:
    • For entrance into undergraduate study programs, applicants should be under the age of 25.
    • For entrance into postgraduate study programs, applicants should be under the age of 40.
  • Possess a grade point average (G.P.A.) of over 80% from the last educational institution attended.
  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree by the date of arrival for graduate programs and for Ph.D. applicants.
  • Previous applicants who have formally applied for any undergraduate, master's, or doctoral program in Korea are ineligible to reapply for this program.

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Certificate of high school graduation
  • High school transcript (for undergraduate study)
  • Authentic citizenship documents of the applicant's country of origin
