Hybrid rocket engines are a vital component in modern space exploration and technology. Hybrid rocket engines are crucial in suborbital space tourism as they are safer than liquid or solid fuel engines, making them ideal for such missions. They are also vital in research experiments, as they are cost-effective and provide accurate results.

In the educational sector, hybrid rocket engines inspire future scientists and engineers by providing hands-on experience in rocketry and space exploration, fostering a passion for science and technology.

On September 1, Bangladesh witnessed a remarkable milestone as the Amateur Experimental Rocketry Dhaka (AERD), a research organisation specialising in hybrid rocket propulsion, achieved a historic feat.

This achievement was made possible through the sponsorship of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation (D2A2I) and the American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB). The momentous occasion took place at the research facility of AIUB.

Amidst the backdrop of meticulous preparation and a rainy day, the AERD team, along with an audience that included AERD members, parents, and students from BRAC, NSU, and AIUB, bore witness to the successful ignition of Bangladesh's inaugural hybrid rocket engine.

Szu Heng Baldwin Chen, the project leader of AERD, expressed his sentiments on this momentous occasion, stating, "After months of dedicated hard work and extensive data collection, we were finally able to witness our innovative design come to life. The sense of achievement was indescribable, and every member of the team felt a profound sense of relief."

Shahzaib Muaz Abedin, the CS lead at AERD, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the team's determination to push the boundaries further.

This milestone represents just the beginning of AERD's journey. The organisation is committed to advancing hybrid rocket engine technology and fostering collaborative endeavours within Bangladesh's local and academic communities. AERD welcomes individuals passionate about space exploration and rocketry to join their ranks.

Notable members of AERD who have contributed significantly to this groundbreaking achievement include Szu Heng Baldwin Chen, Shahzaib Muaz Abedin, Sam Cui, Ian Meservey, Razeen Ali, Mushfiqur Shadhin, N M Saif Kabir, Aanha Islam, Yohann Coulibaly, Liam Oliver Novak, and Eojin Kim. Their dedication and collective effort have paved the way for a brighter future in the realm of space technology and exploration in Bangladesh.

The inaugural hybrid rocket engine test marks the beginning of a new era in the nation's space endeavours and exemplifies the spirit of innovation and collaboration. The sky is no longer the limit as Bangladesh continues its ascent into space under the promise of hybrid rocket technology; it is only the beginning of a remarkable journey beyond.
