Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Wednesday told Parliament that a total of 60,295 posts of teachers are currently vacant in MPO-listed schools and colleges across the country.

“Altogether, there are 60,295 vacant teacher posts in MPO-listed schools and colleges,” he said while replying to a tabled question from NCP lawmaker Md Abul Hasnat (popularly known as Hasnat Abdullah) in the House.

The minister said there are 656 vacant lecturer posts under the BCS (General Education) cadre in government colleges, reports UNB.

Besides, 2,410 non-cadre lecturer posts remain vacant in recently nationalised colleges, he said.

He said that 1,349 posts of principals and vice-principals are vacant in non-government MPO-listed colleges.

Besides, recruitment is currently underway against 1,344 vacant teacher posts in MPO-listed colleges, added the minister.

Ehsanul Hoque said the government has taken various initiatives to fill up the vacant posts quickly.

He noted that the recruitment process for lecturers in government colleges is ongoing through the 45th, 46th, 47th, 49th and 50th BCS examinations.

On the other hand, the process to recruit teachers in MPO-listed educational institutions continues through the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRC) in a transparent and merit-based manner, he said.

In this regard, an e-requisition notice for collecting vacancy data was published on March 29, 2026, and further steps will be taken to fill the posts based on the received information, he added.

The minister also said the 8th NTRCA recruitment examination-2026 (revised) has been arranged to fill 11,151 vacant posts of heads and assistant heads of MPO-listed institutions, and the application process has already been completed.

He expressed hope that the ongoing initiatives would help fill the vacant posts quickly.
