Fairuz Sadaf Abontika, the Jagannath University student who died by suicide two months ago, secured third place in the university’s 14th batch honours final year results with a CGPA of 3.65.

The results of the LLB programme’s eighth semester were hung on the Law Department’s notice board on Sunday. Abontika’s results in different courses were posted alongside those of others in her batch. Raihan Siddique Amman, the pupil Abontika accused of inciting her suicide, has scored 3.09.

According to the results, Abontika secured a 3.73 CGPA out of 4 in the final eighth semester. She secured GPA 4 in the Liberation Movement and Independent course, GPA 4 in viva-voce, GPA 3.75 in the Special Penal Law course, GPA 3.75 in the Legal Research and Writing course, and GPA of 3.50 in the Conveyancing, Drafting and Trial Advocacy Training course.

“Abontika was one of the most meritorious students in the class. She was regular in classes. Like other semesters, she secured third place with her accomplishments in the eighth semester as well,” said Dr Sarkar Ali Akkas, chairman of the department’s eighth-semester Examination Committee.

Around 10pm on Mar 15, Abontika hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Cumilla. Before her death, she accused Amman of sexual harassment through “online comments”.

She added that Assistant Proctor Din Islam defended Amman, and threatened to expel her after she complained about the harassment.

Abontika’s mother Tahmina Shabnam started a case against Amman and Din with Kotwali Model Police Station in Cumilla over the incident on Mar 16. Amman has been serving behind bars since his arrest on Mar 16, while Din was released on bail.
