Bangladesh, China economic ties poised for new era after elections: Chinese envoy

Bangladesh and China will witness a new era of development in economic relations after the general elections, Chinese envoy in Dhaka Yao Wen has said.

“I firmly believe that through our joint efforts, we will build China-Bangladesh economic and trade cooperation into a benchmark and model for high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and uplift China-Bangladesh strategic partnership to higher levels,” he said while speaking at the China-Bangladesh Business Excellence Award 2023 organised by Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) in the capital on Thursday.

A total of 12 Chinese companies and 15 Bangladeshi companies were honoured at the event.

The Chinese awardees are Engineering Co., Ltd (CPP), China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), China Railway Group, Power Construction Corporation of China, Sany Heavy Industry Bangladesh Limited, Huawei Technologies Bangladesh Ltd, LDC Group, New Hope Liuhe Bangladesh Region, Unimas Sportswear Ltd as Mainland Headwear Holdings Limited, Newtop Textile (BD) Ltd, China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation, New Era Fashions Mfrs (BD) Ltd.

The Bangladeshi winners are Jamuna Meter Industries Ltd., S. Alam Group of Industries, Mir Akhter Hossain Limited, MAX Infrastructure Limited, ARIDOD Tech Serve Limited, Saif Powertec Ltd, Daffodil Computers Ltd, Shah Fatehullah Textile Mills Limited, Hena Enterprises Limited, ACI Limited, CEMS Global, Netex, M/s. Tohfa Enterprise, Premier Bank PLC and Mridha Business Ltd.

At the awards ceremony, CEAB President Ke Changliang said that bilateral trade between Bangladesh and China hit $28 billion in 2022, thanks to significant contributions from enterprises of varying sizes in both countries. This award, marking the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, recognises their impact.
