Bangladesh and India have signed a protocol on trans-boundary elephant conservation on Thursday.
The protocol, signed at the state guest house Padma, will facilitate the movement of elephants across the border and facilitate elephant conservation activities.
Ziaul Hasan NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Bangladesh and Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Masud bin Momen, Commerce Secretary Md. Zafar Uddin and Deputy Secretary (Forest 2) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Dipak Kumar Chakraborty were present at the signing ceremony.
It will also help to play an effective role in resolving the elephant-man conflict.
The protocol was part of the total of seven agreements / memoranda of understanding / protocols that were signed on the occasion of the Virtual Summit held at the prime ministerial level of Bangladesh and India.
As part of the event, a protocol related to the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change was also signed, said the ministry.
