Jatiya Party has condemned an attack on the Rangpur residence of its Chairman GM Quader, blaming the interim government for failing to ensure the safety of Bangladesh and its people.

“This incident once again proves the nation is not safe under the current government,” the party’s Secretary General Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu said in a statement on Thursday night.

The party has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, calling for exemplary punishment to be ensured.

“Every attack on GM Quader and Jatiya Party will be answered by the people,” Mujibul said. “Those who have set the country ablaze with mob culture will one day be destroyed by that very fire.”

He described the incident as “a direct blow to clean political practices”.

The party warned that without punitive action, the government must answer in the people’s court.

The attack occurred around 8:30pm on Thursday at Quader’s Sky View residence in Rangpur’s Senpara.

The party leaders allege that a group of demonstrators stormed the house after marching from the city’s Press Club.

Jatiya Party city unit General Secretary SM Yasir has blamed the attack on members of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Party (NCP), calling it a “disgraceful” act.

Leaders of the Anti-discrimination Movement have rejected the claims and, in turn, accused Jatiya Party activists of attacking their peaceful protest.
