Bangladesh and the United States are seeking to elevate their partnership to “new heights”, with both sides highlighting broader collaboration across key sectors of engagement.
The courtesy call, held at the foreign ministry on Monday, comes as the new administration in Dhaka begins its diplomatic engagements with global powers.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) following the meeting, Ambassador Christensen congratulated the foreign minister on his new role.
“Congratulations to Khalil Rahman on his new role as Minister of Foreign Affairs,” he wrote.
“So pleased to continue working together to make both of our countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
According to a ministry statement, the two sides underscored a partnership built on "mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a commitment to peace and development”.
The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral interests, including trade, investment, defence and security, and development partnerships.
The forthcoming visit of US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Paul Kapur to Bangladesh in early March was also discussed.
Addressing the protracted Rohingya crisis, Khalilur conveyed appreciation for "continued US humanitarian assistance" while seeking "sustained political support for the safe and sustainable repatriation of the displaced Rohingya population to Myanmar".
Before meeting the foreign minister, Ambassador Christensen also paid a maiden courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
