The upcoming visit of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to Japan will get the top priority in the Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) between the two countries on May 15 in Tokyo.

Professor Yunus is likely to attend the Nikkei Forum to be held in Tokyo on May 29.

He is likely to have a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister on May 30, before departing for home the same day, foreign ministry sources said.

"Issues related to trade and investment, continuation of economic cooperation will be highlighted in the FOC," said Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka, Saida Shinichi.

Talking to reporters at the foreign ministry after a meeting, the envoy said that the Japan government did not make any public announcement on the visit of the CA.

"Japan has been your faithful development partner, since independence," he noted.

He also said Japan was involved in key development projects in Bangladesh like the Matarbari Deep-sea Port, metro rail and rail line projects.

According to the foreign ministry officials, Mr Nazrul Islam Secretary (East), will lead the Bangladesh side in the FOC meeting.

Usually the foreign secretary leads such a meeting but this time he is not going.

Even in the latest FOC with Denmark, he was absent.
