BFIU seeks bank account details of 21 more journalists

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has requested information on the bank accounts of 21 journalists.

The BFIU, in a letter on Sunday, instructed all the banks and non-bank financial institutions to provide information about various accounts held by these individuals and their companies or organisations.

The journalists under scrutiny are Saiful Alam, editor of the Daily Jugantor; Hasan Zahid Tushar, former deputy press secretary to the prime minister; Pranab Saha, head of news at DBC News; M. Shamsur Rahman, editor-in-chief and CEO of Independent TV; Mamun Abdullah, head of news at Independent TV; Animesh Kar, special correspondent of Independent TV; Md. Ruhul Amin Russell, Managing Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin; and Mahmud Hasan, Deputy Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin.

The list also includes senior reporter of Daily Khola Kagoj Zafar Ahmed, editor of the Daily Jatiya Orthoniti Editor MG Kibria Chowdhury, Amader Somoy and Amader Orthoniti Chief Reporter Deepak Chowdhury, Head of Input at Ekushey TV Akhil Kumar Poddar, Ekattor TV journalist Jhumur Bari, Editor of the Ekushey Sangbad Ziadur Rahman, special correspondent of Daily Kalbela Angur Nahar Monti, and Chairman of My TV Nasir Uddin Sathi.

The financial intelligence agency, earlier on December 30, sought the bank account details of 12 journalists.
