Leaders and activists of the BNP's student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, have once again blocked the Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding justice for the murder of Dhaka University JCD leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.
On Tuesday, shortly after 3:30 pm, Chhatra Dal activists began their blockade at the busy intersection, halting vehicular movement in the area.
A large number of JCD members gathered at the scene, chanting slogans such as “We demand justice, justice for Sammo’s murder” and “My brother is in the grave, why is the killer still free?”
This follows a similar protest held Sunday, when Chhatra Dal blocked the Shahbagh intersection for nearly two hours, alleging negligence in the investigation of the murder case and demanding the immediate arrest of the main suspect in the killing.
Meanwhile, students of the IER of Dhaka University on Tuesday threatened to hold a 'long march towards the home ministry' on Thursday if there is no visible progress in the investigation of the murder.
Shammo, a student in the 2018-19 academic year at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of Dhaka University, was stabbed at Suhrawardy Udyan around 11 pm on May 13. When he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around midnight, the duty doctor declared him dead.
His older brother Shariful Alam filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station, naming 10 to 12 individuals as accused.
So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, according to police.
