3 including ‘drug dealer’ beaten in Manikganj after robber attack announcement

Locals have beaten three people including a “drug dealer” after an announcement of a robbery was made from a mosque in Manikganj.

Those who are beaten are 27-year-old Arif, son of Dulal from Sultanpur village in Harirampur Upazila, Sagar, son of Afsar from Kalashi area in Sadar Upazila, and Mithu Molla from Nali area in Shibalaya Upazila.

The incident took place around 10pm on Monday in Khabashpur, a border area between Harirampur Upazila and the Sadar Upazila, said Harirampur Police Station Sub-Inspector Emdadul Islam.

The SI said, "Arif, accused in a drug case, ran from Khabashpur Chawk and entered a house in Satti village of Harirampur Upazila. At that time, panicked people in the house started screaming, thinking that robbers were coming."

“Another group of drug peddlers started making an announcement from the mosque that there was a robbery. Then locals beat up three people. Around 10:30pm, Harirampur Police rescued the three and took them to Harirampur Upazila Health Complex.”

Later, around 1am, the family members took the three suspects away in the presence of police. He said the incident was mainly related to drug sales.

SI Emdadul Islam said, "Arif is named in a drug case filed with Sadar Police Station. He is out on bail. Arif is the one who was hurt most. Sagar and Mithu have received first aid."
