The body of a High Court employee has been recovered hanging inside the Supreme Court’s Bijoy Ekattor Building in Dhaka.

Shahbagh Police chief Moniruzzaman Khan said the body was found behind a toilet on the building’s eighth floor around midday on Monday.

The dead, 42-year-old Md Kamal Uddin, worked as a janitor at the bench of High Court Justice Syed Enayet Hossain.

He hailed from Boro Kathuri village in Netrokona Sadar and lived in Dhaka’s Adabor.

Moniruzzaman said, “Kamal returned to Dhaka on Sunday after spending the Eid holidays and went to work on Monday.”

Quoting Kamal’s daughter Kaniz Fatema Bithi, the officer said: “Kamal was suffering from a complex illness and most recently received treatment in the neuromedicine department at Ibn Sina. He could not attend office from December to January due to surgery for piles.

“He faced complications because he had not taken official leave during that period and recently ran into attendance-related problems. As a result, he was worried about his job.”

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
