Sajid Chowdhury Rafi, a 21-year-old motorcyclist who was critically injured after being struck in the head with a brick while riding in the capital's Shewrapara area, died on Monday after battling for his life for 13 days.

He died on Monday morning while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, local media reported, citing police.

Three people have so far been arrested in connection with Rafi's death. They have been identified as Md Parvez, Faisal alias Kalu, and Anwar Hossain Babu.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1:15 am on June 9 when Rafi was returning home on his motorcycle through East Shewrapara.

Investigators said one of the attackers, who had allegedly been lying in wait, signalled Rafi to stop. When he ignored the signal and continued riding, another assailant hurled a brick at the moving motorcycle, striking him and causing him to fall onto the road.

Rafi was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an auto-rickshaw.

After CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media, many initially believed it to be an attempted motorcycle robbery. However, police said an analysis of the footage revealed that the attackers were known to Rafi.

Police believe the attack was premeditated and carried out over a prior dispute.
