Five people have died of dengue, while 1,211 more patients been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease throughout Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.
The Directorate General of Health Services, or DGHS, said as many as 396 were admitted to hospital in Dhaka among the new dengue patients until Wednesday morning.
In addition, 312 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 35 in the Mymensingh Division, 123 in the Chattogram Division, 160 in the Khulna Division, 66 in the Rajshahi Division, six in the Sylhet Division, 28 in the Rangpur Division and 95 in the Barishal Division.
With the new counts, the number of hospitalised dengue patients has reached 76,021 this year. A total of 372 people died among them.
As many as 4,095 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country. They include 1,857 in the capital and 2,238 outside Dhaka.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. The highest 1,705 people also died of the disease that year.
