The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) authorities on Tuesday fined a shop of Rajshahi University (RU) for keeping and selling expired foods and drinks to the students.
Hasan Al Maruf, deputy director of DNCRP Rajshahi Office fined the shop -'Campus Food Corner' TK 20,000 after receiving complaints from two university students.
Campus sources said Raihan Kabir, a final year student of RU public administration department bought a drink from the shop and fell sick after drinking it.
Later, Raihan Kabir along with his friends again went to the shop bought some more drinks and biscuits and shop owner Nizam Uddin Alam served them with expired drinks and foods again which triggered an altercation between them, reports UNB.
Later, the students informed the university proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman about the matter who later informed the DNCRP office.
However, Nizam Uddin claimed that he had been keeping the expired foods and drinks to return them to the companies.
The shop had been closed for several times previously for the same allegation.
