Sudip Chakroborthy, associate professor of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University, has been suspended from all academic activities, classes and all examination committees.
The decision followed his arrest in a case over the suicide of Munira Mahzabin Mimo, a student from the same department, bdnews24.com reports.
A press statement on Monday night said the decision was taken at a special meeting of the department's academic committee last Sunday.
The notification said, “Munira Mahzabin, a 2nd semester MA student of the department in the year 2024, unexpectedly passed away, leaving us all in shock. After this incident, the teacher of the department, Associate Professor Dr Sudip Chakroborthy, was arrested by the law enforcing agencies. He has been sent to jail due to the filing of a case.”
It further said that the academic committee meeting decided that Sudip has been removed from all academic activities, classes and all examination committees of the department until the legal process is resolved.
