ECNEC approves project to develop three national airports

The government has decided to develop three national airports as the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project involving Tk 5.66 billion on Tuesday.

Under the project, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) would upgrade the facilities of Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi, Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari and Jashore airport to facilitate secured air journey of the passengers.

The ECNEC endorsed a total of four projects at a combine cost of Tk 16.68 billion during its meeting held virtually with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

According to the Planning Commission, out of the total Tk 16.68 billion costs, Tk 15.24 billion will come from the government’s own exchequer and the rest Tk 1.43 billion will come from the implementing agencies’ own sources.

Three others ECNEC approved projects are: Land acquisition and development at Kadamrasulpur at Narayanganj City Corporation for waste management project at Tk 3.01 billion, Rural infrastructure development at Madaripur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts project (1st revised) extending the cost by 5.09 billion to Tk 20.09 billion and Irrigation expansion through surface water at greater Dinajpur and Jaipurhat districts project at Tk 2.51 billion.
