Former president Md Abdul Hamid's brother, freedom fighter Abdul Haque Nuru, has died at the age of 68.
He passed away at a hospital in Dhaka around 3pm on Sunday.
Former Dhaka University pro-vice-chancellor Muhammad Samad confirmed his death to bdnews24.com.
According to him, Abdul Haque was born on Nov 5, 1957 in Kamalpur village of Kishoreganj’s Mithamoin Upazila.
He studied at Kishoreganj Government Boys High School, Gurudayal Government College, and the Department of Sociology at Dhaka University.
A freedom fighter dedicated to improving the education and cultural sectors, he founded the Tamija Khatun Government Girls High School in memory of his mother. He also played a major role in establishing Mithamoin College, which was later renamed Freedom Fighter Abdul Haque Government College.
He also served as president of the Mithamoin Upazila Awami League.
Samad said Abdul Haque’s body would be kept at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka before being flown to Mithamoin at 12:30pm on Monday.
He will be laid to rest at the family graveyard in Kamalpur after funeral prayers.
