The deaths, caused by electrocution, choking on a lychee seed, suicide and pesticide ingestion, occurred in Pirganj, Ranishankail and Baliadangi upazilas, reports UNB.

In Pirganj upazila, Mithun Roy, 30, a carpenter and son of Surendra Roy from Khetgaon Sindullah village under Daulatpur union, was electrocuted on Monday afternoon while working on a tin roof at a house owned by Anwar Muhuri. Locals rushed him to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

In a separate incident in the same upazila, an 8-year-old boy named Hossain, son of Mahmudul Islam, died after choking on a lychee seed in Dalpatipur village under Kosharaniganj union.

Family members said the child suddenly choked while eating lychee in the morning. He was taken to hospital, but doctors said he had died before arrival.

Dr. Waris Yazdani, Residential Medical Officer at Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that the child was brought dead to the hospital. He also said another person brought in after electrocution was declared dead following an ECG test.

Meanwhile, police recovered the hanging body of a 20-year-old motorcycle mechanic, Swapan Kumar Roy, from Ujdhari village in Hossengaon union of Ranishankail upazila.

Local sources said Swapan had been in a dispute with family members over bringing his pregnant wife back from her parental home. After dinner on Sunday night, family members went to sleep, and in the morning, his body was found hanging in his room. Police were informed and later recovered the body.

In another incident, a 68-year-old man, Sushil Chandra Roy, from Dogachi (Girjapara) village in Baliadangi upazila, died after reportedly ingesting pesticide tablets.

Family members said he consumed the toxic tablets secretly on Sunday night. He was later taken to a local village doctor in an ill condition and was declared dead.

The brother of the deceased, Malin Chandra Roy, said Sushil had long been suffering from illness and may have taken the step due to prolonged physical suffering.
