Gemcon Group founder Kazi Shahed Ahmed dies

Kazi Shahed Ahmed, the founder of Gemcon Group and editor and publisher of the defunct daily newspaper ‘Doinik Ajker Kagoj’, passed away at a city hospital on Monday evening at the age of 83 years.

He was also a prominent sports organiser in the country. Born in Jashore in 1940, Kazi Shahed was one of the founding platoon commanders of the Bangladesh Military Academy.

According to UNB, he started his business career with the establishment of Gemcon Group in 1979.

A BSS report said President Mohammed Shahabuddin expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Kazi Shahid Ahmed.

In a condolence message, he recalled with respect the contribution of Kazi Shahid to the field of journalism in the country.

"The nation will remember him with due respect for long," the head of the state said.

He also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen also expressed deep shock and sorrow at Kazi Shahed’s death.
