Production at the Ghorashal-Polash fertiliser plant in Narsingdi has resumed after being suspended for over a month due to a severe natural gas shortage.
The facility officially restarted operations at 12pm on Monday, General Manager Md Fakhrul Alam said.
“Production was halted on Mar 4 following government directives to cut off the gas supply,” he said.
“After the connection was restored on the evening of Mar 31, we initiated the technical process to bring the plant back online,” Alam said.
The factory, which is entirely dependent on natural gas for its operations, has a daily production capacity of 2,800 tonnes.
The month-long shutdown resulted in a significant disruption to the daily output of urea.
Despite the prolonged closure, the factory authorities noted that a substantial stock remains available to meet immediate agricultural needs.
As of Apr 1, the facility had a total reserve of 28,948 tonnes of urea fertiliser.
