A new monument titled "Gono Minar," commemorating the historic July Uprising, will be constructed on the green space between Bir Uttam Major General Azizur Rahman Road and Bijoy Sarani in the capital, with the involvement of people from all walks of life. The announcement was made at a press conference held at Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday.

Addressing the event, filmmaker and sculptor Kamar Ahmad Saimon said, "This monument will serve as a collective memory of the July uprising - built by the people, for the people - beyond political or ideological lines." He added that the names and brief profiles of 1,400 martyrs from the uprising will be engraved on it.

Saimon also informed that the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has agreed to provide land for the project and will support it through funding and engineering assistance.

"A mass fundraising campaign will be launched before construction begins to ensure inclusive public participation."

Members of the implementation committee present at the press conference included Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam, poet and writer Altaf Shah Newaz, journalist Ehsan Mahmud, DU Professor Samina Luthfa, and Associate Professor Khorshed Alam.
