A legal notice has been served on five ministries asking them to grant Grade-10 of the National Pay Scale to all the headmasters of the government primary schools across the country complying with an apex court judgement.

Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah, a Supreme Court lawyer, sent the notice on Wednesday to the ministries of law, public administration, education, finance, and primary and mass education. The lawyer also asked the government bodies to abide by the notice within seven days after receiving it. Otherwise the issue would be addressed to the court, he warned.

As of now, around 65,000 headmasters are working in the primary schools throughout the country, the lawyer said.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on March 13 ordered the government to upgrade the salary structure of the headmasters to Grade-10 and give them the status of second-class gazetted officer. After the apex court verdict, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on July 7 this year upgraded the salary structure for only 45 teachers.
