With the slogan of ‘Pahte Cholte Naito Bhoy’ Swastite Dhaka-9, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy on Environment and Climate Affairs Saber Hossain Chowdhury today (Aug 20) inaugurated the installation of Close Circuit Television cameras (CCTVs) in his constituency.
After the installation of CCTVs at Sabujbagh Boudha Mandir, he said that it would ensure public safety and eliminate drugs and crime under the slogan at Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda police stations area.
The close circuit camera installation programme was taken with the personal initiative and overall cooperation of Saber Hossain Chowdhury.
Under the slogan of 'Swastite Dhaka-9', 413 high-quality CCTV cameras will be installed at the important locations under Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda police stations.
The project will be implanted under the supervision of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Each camera will be able to capture clear image even at night from a distance of up to 90 feet, which will be controlled from control room set up at Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda police stations.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Motijheel Zone Hayatul Islam Khan provided full support to the project.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “We have crossed a step in building of ‘Smart Bangladesh’ declared by the Prime Minister by installing CCTV cameras at important places of Khilgaon, Sabujbagh and Mugda police stations.”
“About 15 lakh people are living in three police stations of my constituency. Only a policeman working here for ensuring 24 hours security of about 3000 people. We have tried to make this work of the police easier through the digital technology of 'Swasti' project,” he added.
When the project was running on an experimental basis, it was possible to identify and arrest the accused of murder cases, Saber said.
DMP Commissioner Khandkar Golam Faruq said the peaceful law and order situation is a precondition for the development of a country, adding, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from 2009 to 2023, the law and order situation was stable with few exceptions.”
“This area has been brought under latest technology by installing CCTV cameras. As a result, police will be able to work immediately to control law and order and contain the criminals,” he said.
The DMP Commissioner sought everyone's cooperation to keep the law and order situation normal, as around 20 million people live in the city.
