Italy bans BD passengers until Oct 5

Entry into Italy for any passengers traveling from Bangladesh has been declared forbidden till October 5 this year.

The health ministry of Italy announced the decision on Wednesday.

Referring to the decision, Qatar Airways has already announced that they will not carry any passengers from Bangladesh whose final destination will be Italy.

Commenting on the issue Bangladesh foreign ministry high ups said on Thursday that Irresponsible acts by Bangladeshi expatriates resulted in the imposition of any ban on arrival of Bangladeshis in Italy.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh is in touch with Italy foreign ministry to sort out the issue.

State Minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam said that some Bangladeshis acted recklessly after arriving at Italy from Bangladesh.

"They did not follow the quarantine rules and move out of quarantine' he said.

Mr Alam said that the foreign ministry was in contact with the Italian foreign ministry to resolve the issue.

On July 6, Italy announced ban on flights from Bangladesh after some passengers from Bangladesh were found Covid positive.

And on July 8, Italy refused to provide entry to 168 Bangladeshis who arrived in Rome and Milan by two separate flights of Qatar Airways.

Even after repeated request from Bangladeshi Missions in Rome, Italian government did not change their decision and finally all the passengers except a pregnant woman were forced to return to Doha by a Qatar Airways flight.
