Hundreds of leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have ended their blockade at the Shahbagh intersection, staged to protest alleged negligence in the investigation into the murder of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.
The blockade began around 3:45pm on Sunday and continued for two hours.
JCD President Rakibul Islam announced the conclusion of the programme at 5:45pm.
Following the announcement, traffic movement resumed in the area.
During the demonstration, protesters chanted slogans demanding justice for Shammo.
JCD President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin addressed the gathering, calling for the resignation of the Dhaka University vice chancellor and proctor.
They warned that the organisation would initiate a tougher programme if their demands, including the immediate arrest of those responsible for Shammo’s killing, are not fulfilled.
JCD had earlier announced the protest in a press release issued on Saturday.
