While there is both hope and disappointment surrounding the July Charter, National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz believes a consensus may still be within reach by mid-July.
Riaz made the remarks in his opening statement on Wednesday, the seventh day of the second phase of the commission’s discussions at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, according to bdnews24.com.
“Sometimes we make progress. Sometimes we get a little disappointed because we can’t make as much progress as we want to,” he said.
“But if we try, we might be able to reach a consensus on a charter by mid-July.”
The July Charter is expected to be a political pledge that outlines a response to the July Uprising, articulating the people’s aspirations following the changeover in power, and sets a course for state reform.
Participating political parties are expected to commit to implementing agreed-upon changes.
