No meeting with agitating NBR officials today: Finance Adviser

No meeting will be held today with the protesting officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said. 

“If the officials want to continue their shutdown programme, they may do so,” he told reporters at the Ministry of Finance in response to a question on Sunday. 

Dr Salehuddin added that the issue of the NBR officials’ movement was discussed in a meeting of the advisory council.

“A press release will be issued in this regard,” he stated.

The advisory council has decided not to hold a meeting with the protesting officials of the NBR, according to sources at the finance ministry. Even the meeting scheduled for July 1 is now uncertain, and a final decision will be made later, they said. 

Earlier, an NBR source had said a meeting between the protesting NBR officials and the Finance Adviser was expected to take place at 4 pm on Sunday in an effort to resolve the stalemate. The meeting was supposed to be held at the adviser’s office.
