In a bid to strengthen the country's human rights protection, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) stresses the extended cooperation with mass-media.

NHRC also believes that any law creating barriers to the free press and independent journalism needs to be repealed.

NHRC chairman Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed says these at a seminar on Tuesday morning in Dhaka.

NHRC fulltime member Md Selim Reza gave the introductory remarks at the seminar.

Kazi Arfan Ashik, director of the commission, presented the activities of the commission.

PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad attended the event as chief guest.

National Press Club President Farida Yasmin was the special guest of the seminar.

Senior journalists and editors of different newspapers and electronic media attended the seminar.

They asked the commission to step up to review different laws restraining the independent journalism.
