Planning Minister MA Mannan on Thursday in Dhaka said the government will no more tolerate misuse of public funds in the name of project execution.
“In some cases, there are some overestimations in the projects. The human error here is tolerable but misuse is not acceptable,” he said after a meeting with all the secretaries of the ministries and divisions in Dhaka.
According to the Prime Minister’s desire, I had strictly instructed the secretaries to take stringent measures against the misuse and misappropriation of the public-taxed money, he told reporters.
Meanwhile, the secretaries had agreed in the meeting that they would take proper steps to check the misuse and mismanagement in project preparation and their implementation stage, the minister said after the meeting.
Following the widespread media reports on the misuses of public funds through several projects, Planning Minister MA Mannan sat with secretaries of all the ministries and divisions to deliver government’s position on this issue.
The meeting was held at the Planning Commission in the city on Thursday.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, Principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, Planning Secretary M Asadul Islam, members of the planning Commission were also present on the occasions.
MA Mannan said: “We all have agreed about the austerity. We will avoid un-necessary spending in the development projects.”
This austerity and cautiousness would not only be applicable during the COVID period it would be practiced in every time, he added.
