Mob assault leaves Narayanganj child rape suspect fighting for life

A man accused of raping a 6-year old in Narayanganj’s Fatullah is now in intensive care at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being beaten by locals.

The incident took place on Friday evening in a village under Baktaboli Union, said Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehdi.

He said the victim’s mother filed a case on Saturday morning at Fatullah Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The case names two suspects, including the injured youth, reports bdnews24.com.

The suspects have been identified only as Hero, 22, and Sohel, 21.

Police said the alleged assault occurred in the afternoon, according to the family.

The incident surfaced at night, following which locals apprehended Hero and brutally beat him.

Police later rescued him and shifted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Efforts are under way to arrest the second accused.

Officers said arrangements are being made to send the child for medical examination.

The Narayanganj district administrator also met the victim and her family at the police station on Saturday morning.
