A 15-year-old girl was abducted from her father and later found dead in Narsingdi after her family sought justice over her rape, police, relatives and locals said.
Her body was found in a mustard field between Bilpar and Darikandi in Mahishashura Union of Sadar Upazila on Thursday, Prothom Alo reports.
The girl lived with her parents and brother in a rented house in the area. Her father works at a textile factory.
Police, the family and locals said Nura and five to six other youths took her away 15 days ago while she was returning home. The family said she was then raped.
The family later went to Ahmadullah, a former member of Ward No. 9 of Mahishashura Union, seeking justice. They said they did not get help and were instead told to leave the area.
According to the family, Nura and his associates became enraged after the complaint was made to the former UP member.
Amid this tension, on Wednesday night, the girl’s father was taking her to her maternal aunt’s house. When they reached Bilpar, Nura and six others abducted her from him, according to the family.
The family searched for her all night but could not find her.
The next morning, around 9:30am, locals found her body in a mustard field. Madhabdi Police Station recovered the body and sent it to Narsingdi General Hospital for an autopsy after preparing an inquest report.
The girl’s elder brother was quoted to have told the daily, “We will file a case with the police. We want justice for those who tortured and killed my sister.”
After the incident, Nura and the other accused youths went into hiding, locals said.
Former UP member Ahmadullah has also not been seen in the area since the body was found. He could not be contacted as his phone was found switched off.
Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain said efforts were underway to arrest those involved.
