Gazipur Safari Park has brought in three lions from Cox’s Bazar’s Dulahazra Safari Park as it looks to boost visitor interest during the Eid holidays.
The new arrivals — one male and two females — have raised the total number of lions at the park to five, bdnews24.com reports.
Tareq Rahman, the park’s officer-in-charge and assistant conservator of forests, confirmed that the lions have already been released into their designated enclosures.
"Visitors have been able to see them since Eid day," he said.
The park remained open last Tuesday, which is usually its weekly closing day.
The move appeared successful, with park officials reporting a massive turnout of over 15,000 visitors on the day of Eid alone.
The park management improved its transport system to handle the large holiday crowds.
Seven air-conditioned minibuses are now running to take tourists through the safari areas. The food courts have also been upgraded. Additionally, the toilets and washing facilities were improved to make the visit more comfortable for everyone.
"Since our lion population had decreased, we brought these three from Dulahazra to restore the attraction," Tareq added.
"We have taken all necessary measures to ensure both the safety and quality of service for the Eid crowds."
