Police Headquarters has dismissed reports of a theft at the Bagerhat home of IGP Ali Hossain Fakir as false.

In a statement on Wednesday, the authorities said that there was no theft at the IGP's residence. However, some media outlets have published reports of such an incident without proper verification, leading to public confusion, police said.

The statement said, “On the 16th of March, around 11pm, there was a power outage due to a thunderstorm and some wires of the service line outside the boundary wall of the house were torn down and fell on the ground. Later, some unidentified people took away the wires.”

Police noticed the incident and recovered the lost wires the next day, following a raid. They arrested Md Rabiul Islam, 28, Abdur Kader, 24 and Md Chanchal Sheikh, 38 over the incident.

Law enforcers urged people not to be “confused” by the “false and fabricated” news regarding a theft at the IGP’s house.
