11-party alliance’s protest rallies from May 16

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance will hold a series of rallies across seven divisions in phased programmes beginning this month, protesting what it termed politicisation of the administration and the appointment of ruling party loyalists to local government bodies instead of holding elections.B

Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat and coordinator of the alliance's liaison committee Hamidur Rahman Azad announced the programmmes at a press conference held at Jamaat's central office in Dhaka on Thursday.

"We have finalised our programmes at a meeting of the top alliance leaders," he said.

According to the announcement, the alliance will hold its first rally in Rajshahi on May 16, followed by Chattogram on June 13, Khulna on June 20, Mymensingh on June 27, Rangpur on July 11, Barishal on July 18, and Sylhet on July 25.

The campaign will culminate in a grand rally in the capital, Dhaka, scheduled for October.Trade Deal Analysis
