Former Narayanganj District Chhatra Dal president Zakir Khan was released from jail on bail amid the jubilation of his supporters.
The former JCD leader walked out from the Narayanganj jail at around 10:15 am, said Jail super Md Forkan Wahid, UNB reports.
Hundreds of followers of Zakir received him at the jail gate in a showdown and paraded the city in a motorcade involving hundreds of motorcycles and cars.
Zakir was shifted to the Narayanganj jail from Kashimpur jail on March 19.
Traffic congestion was seen on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road following the showdown.
According to court sources, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Zakir from Dhaka’s Bashundhara area on September 3, 2022. He was wanted in 33 cases, including four murder cases.
Later, he secured bail from all the cases in phases.
On January 7, a court acquitted him in the case of killing businessman Sabbir Alam.
