The High Court has granted bail to former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor in two murder cases filed after the fall of the Awami League government in 2024.

The bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher gave the order on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.

Lawyer ZI Khan Panna represented Noor in court. Deputy Attorney General Shayla Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md Alamin represented the state.

Panna told bdnews24.com, “We have had three hearings in these two cases. Earlier, we received a rule on the bail issue. Today, the rule was made absolute (granted).”

Despite receiving the bail, the senior lawyer said Noor will not be released as more cases are pending against him.

According to the case documents, 114 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, have been accused in the murder of 17-year-old Siam Sardar in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Jul 18, 2024. Siam's father, Sohag Sardar, filed the case as the plaintiff on Sept 12 that year. Noor is one of the other named suspects in the case.

On the night of Sept 15, 2024, the police arrested Noor from Dhaka’s Bailey Road.
