The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka is expected to submit the probe report against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case filed over the mass killings during the July-August uprising next Monday.

The submission of the probe report will pave the way to initiate the formal trial process against Sheikh Hasina and many others charged with mass killings during July and August.

Investigators are likely to submit the report to the ICT chief prosecutor's office on that day, the ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam confirmed this information through a post on his Facebook page on Friday.

"I hope the investigation agency of the ICT will submit the report of the July genocide against Sheikh Hasina on Monday. After submission of the investigation report, the formal trial against Hasina will begin with the filing of the 'formal charge'," he said in his post.

He also stated, "An investigation report has already been submitted against senior police officials over the Chankharpul killings. The formal charge for the trial of the killings will be submitted this week and through this, the formal trial of the July genocide will begin, Insha Allah."

The investigation agency of the ICT has found the involvement of eight police personnel, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in crimes, including killings, committed during last year's mass uprising in the capital's Chankharpool area.

Disclosing the information at a press briefing, ICT Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam earlier said that they would now scrutinise the report and supporting evidence and file formal charges against the accused to the tribunal in a few days.
