UK’s Human Rights Ambassador Eleanor Sanders has met a two-member BNP delegation and discussed Bangladesh’s human rights situation and the upcoming national election.
The meeting was held at the British High Commission in Dhaka at 3:30 pm on Monday, said BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
On behalf of BNP, he said party standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and organising secretary Shama joined the meeting.
A BNP leader, wishing anonymity, said Sanders voiced concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and ongoing human rights issues, including the recent alleged extrajudicial killing of a Jubo Dal leader in Cumilla.
He said the BNP delegation briefed the UK human rights envoy on the current human rights condition, law and order and political situation in Bangladesh.
The BNP leader said their delegation also underscored the necessity of holding the next national election to restore normalcy and good governance in the country.
He said the BNP leaders emphasised that meaningful improvements in human rights and law and order could only be achieved through free and fair national elections.
The BNP leader also said their delegation highlighted the party’s 31-point reform outline aimed at bringing qualitative changes in governance, ensuring rights and justice and restoring democracy and the rule of law.
