President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tareq Rahman offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers together at the National Eidgah ground on Saturday morning, marking a rare and historic moment after 36 years.
The main congregation of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr was held at the National Eidgah around 8:30am, drawing thousands of worshippers from across the capital.
The presence of both the head of state and the head of government at the same congregation created a significant and symbolic occasion.
Officials said the joint participation of the President and the Prime Minister reflects a message of unity and harmony, resonating with the spirit of Eid, which emphasises compassion, solidarity and togetherness.
The National Eidgah ground thus became a witness to a unique chapter in the country’s recent history, as the two top leaders stood side by side in prayer along with the people.
Law enforcement agencies ensured tight security in and around the venue to facilitate a peaceful and orderly congregation.
