A senior officer of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) died reportedly by suicide using his service firearm at the RAB-7 Bahaddarhat camp in Chattogram on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Palash Saha, 33, who was serving at the camp under the RAB-7 battalion, UNB reports.
According to RAB sources, the incident took place around 10:30am while ASP Palash was preparing for an operation. He had taken his issued firearm and entered his office room.
Moments later, colleagues heard a gunshot and rushed to the spot, where they found him with a bullet wound to the head. His service pistol was lying on the floor, and a suicide note was found on the table, said Senior ASP (Media) of RAB-7, ARM Muzaffar Hossain.
He was immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, the RAB official added.
Further details will be available following the autopsy, officials said.
