The Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) has expressed concern and deep outrage over the rape and murder of eight-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa Akter in Pallabi area of Dhaka.
WEAB President Nasrin Fatema Awal issued a statement in this regard on Friday, expressing grief and condemnation and demanding justice.
In the statement, WEAB said that this brutal incident is not only the loss of a child’s life, but also exposes serious weaknesses in ensuring the safety and justice of children in Bangladesh. Such barbaric acts against innocent children are unacceptable in a civilised and humane society.
WEAB strongly urged the administration to ensure justice by identifying and punishing those responsible through a speedy trial. The organisation also expressed deep sympathy to Ramisa’s grieving family.
WEAB further called on everyone to unite in building a safe society and state for women and children.
