Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the Razakars list was not verified as per a note from his ministry.
The liberation war affairs ministry was asked in a note to verify the list before publishing it but they didn't, he said at a programme in Dhaka city.
Earlier in the day, according to local media reports, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque apologised for what he said names of the freedom fighters appeared on the Razakars list.
The minister, however, made it clear that his ministry had published the list just as received from the home ministry.
Names of at least seven freedom fighters, including Ghulam Arrief Tipoo, the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, appeared on the official list of Razakars drawing huge criticism.
In a first, the government published a list 10,789 Razakars on Sunday, the full of which Haque had said would be published in phases.
