Ready-made garment workers have cried out against the government decision to set their minimum wage at Tk 8,000.
While staging a sit-in in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka city at 11:30 am on Friday, they also demanded the amount to be at Tk 16,000.
Several hundred garment workers under the banner of Garments Workers’ Trade Union Centre (GWTUC), a platform of RMG workers, attended the event.
They also brought out a protest procession, said Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge at Shahbagh Police Station, UNB reported.
When speaking, Joli Talukder, general secretary of the GWTUC, said, “The fixation of minimum wage for RMG workers is unjust and illogical.” She also urged the government to reconsider the decision.
