A move is underway to open a road comprising three corridors that will connect Aftab Nagar and Rampura with 300-feet Purbachal Expressway in a bid to reduce traffic congestion in Pragati Sarani of Badda and neighbouring areas of the capital.
To this effect, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz visited the area on Saturday, a statement of the corporation said.
If the three corridors-from the second 'U' turn of the expressway to Rampura connecting United International University (UIU) and Aftab Nagar-- are opened, gridlock in Pragati Sarani and surrounding areas will decrease, said the DNCC administrator.
Several points of Pragati Sarani and surrounding areas have been facing intolerable traffic jams due to the ongoing construction work of the metro rail link-1.
To address this problem, the DNCC administrator has given instructions to prepare some diversion roads and service lanes.
Talking to the reporters, he said they have talked with the authorities of the housing projects in the area, including Basundhara, Swadesh and others, in this regard.
"The project authorities have also promised to cooperate from their sides," he was quoted as saying.
He also said the government agencies concerned including Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAJUK and MRT authorities will work jointly with the DNCC to solve traffic congestion problems in the areas.
DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Moin Uddin and Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, other high officials and representatives of other organisations were present on the occasion, among others.
