With the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) and Hall Council elections slated after 35 years, 38 candidates have won unopposed, with 35 of them from women's halls and three from men's halls.
The final list of candidates for the central and 17 hall councils was released on Sunday, comprising a total of 255 positions across the university.
The positions include 35 secretarial roles and three executive member roles.
In the women's halls, 27 candidates have won secretarial positions unopposed, while eight have secured executive member positions. In the men's halls, one candidate won a secretarial position unopposed, with two securing executive member positions.
While no positions remain vacant in men's halls, four executive member positions in women's halls are unfilled, as no candidates have come forward.
The RUCSU election will see a total of 23 positions, with 248 candidates vying for these roles. In the women's halls, 139 candidates are contesting for 90 available positions.
The election will see participation from 28,905 voters, including 17,600 male students and 11,305 female students.
The following halls have seen unopposed victories:
Mannujan Hall: 1
July-36 Hall: 7
Rokeya Hall: 9
Rahamatunnesa Hall: 9
Tapashi Rabeya Hall: 3
Begum Khaleda Zia Hall: 6
Bijoy-24 Hall: 3
Also, vacant positions remain in July-36 Hall, Rokeya Hall, Rahamatunnesa Hall, and Khaleda Zia Hall, where no candidates have run for certain positions.
So far, nine panels have been declared for the elections, six of which are student organisations backed by political parties. These include panels from the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Bangladesh Chhatra League, along with three independent student panels.
Vice-president positions will see 19 candidates, general secretary positions 14 candidates, and assistant general secretary roles will be contested by 16 candidates. Also, 60 candidates will compete for five student senate positions.
Voting will take place from 9am to 4pm on Sept 25 in academic buildings, with results scheduled to be announced on the same day.
Professor F Nazrul Islam confirmed that all processes for the election have been nearly completed, including final voter lists, voting centre arrangements, and agreements for ballot boxes and papers.
