The complete shutdown at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) continued for a second consecutive day on Sunday, as part of a wider protest demanding logical reforms in the revenue administration and the resignation of the NBR Chairman.

On Saturday, officials and employees under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council observed a full-day shutdown across all tax and customs offices in the country, alongside a ‘March to NBR’ programme.

Sunday’s shutdown saw similar scenes, with revenue officials staging demonstrations in front of the NBR headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. Members of law enforcement agencies, including police, RAB, Coast Guard, BGB, and Ansar, have been deployed outside the building. The main entrance remains cordoned off by security personnel, as it was the previous day.

Protesters took position on the pavements adjacent to the NBR building, while around 1:00pm, a group of officials was seen marching inside the premises, chanting slogans: “One demand, one voice—resignation of the Chairman; reform NBR now.”

The movement is demanding reforms through inclusive participation from all stakeholders in the revenue sector.

Similar marches were also held from various tax and customs offices on Saturday. As a result, operations at major points such as Chattogram Port, Benapole Port, Dhaka Customs House, and other customs stations across the country came to a halt, disrupting revenue collection activities nationwide.

A meeting of the NBR Reform Unity Council with the Financial Advisor will be held today at 4:00 pm.
